Mr. Ronnie Burrell Hefner: Obituary

Mr. Ronnie Burrell Hefner, age 66 of Ellijay, GA died Monday March 21, 2016.

Ron was born May 28, 1949, in Ellijay, GA to Grover and Elsie Hefner Burrell. When Ron was five years old, he was adopted by Harold and Opal Chastain Hefner upon the death of his parents. Ron grew up in Ellijay and graduated from Gilmer High School in 1967. Upon graduating from Reinhardt College, Ron worked for Congressman Phil Landrum in Washington, DC. On his return to Georgia, Ron worked in the building supply industry and in the last years of his life he was the owner and manager of Diamond Lure RV Park and Campground.

Ron was active in the Oak Bowery Lodge, where he served as secretary for the past 21 years. He was active in the Special Olympics and several community organizations. He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Elsie Hefner Burrell, adopted parents, Harold and Opal Hefner; mother and father in-law, Rev. Olen and Roselle Chastain and brother, Kem Burrell.

He is survived by: his wife, Annette Chastain Hefner; son and daughter in-law, Shawn and Eschell Hefner, of Gainesville, GA; grandson, Spencer Hefner, of Ellijay, GA; sisters Louise Thomas (Ed), of Ellijay, GA and Marie Overton, of Ellijay, GA; brother Sam Burrell (Emily) of Ellijay, GA and Jeff Hefner (Laura) of Pittsford, NY; sister in-law, Becky Burrell, of Ellijay, GA; aunts, Esther Hefner, of Athens and Hazel Burrell, of Canton, GA; sister in-law, Sara Cantrell (Michael); brothers in-law, Fred Chastain (Trish) and Jim Chastain (Karen).

Funeral Services will be held Saturday March 26th at 3pm from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Burgess officiating. Music will be by the Ebenezer Church Choir. Pallbearers will be Michael Thomas, Mark Thomas, Jim Burrell, Chris Mullinax, Matthew Bailey, Tim Burrell and Greg Burrell. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday March 25th from 5pm until 9pm at the funeral home.

Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the Masonic Children’s Home, The Grand Lodge of Georgia at 811 Mulberry Street, Macon, GA 31201 in memory of Mr. Hefner.
