This past Friday, September 2, the Gilmer Bobcats hosted the Cedartown Bulldogs at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium. This is the first time the Bulldogs have been back to Gilmer since the Bobcats held star running back Nick Chubb to under a hundred yards in the 2012-2013 season.

The Bobcats won the toss and deferred to the second half.

The Bobcats tried to open the game with an onside kick, but failed. Cedartown recovered their ball on the 47-yard line.

The Bulldogs drove all the way down the field, but the Bobcats stopped the fourth down conversion right at the 5-yard line. The Bobcats took over, looking to see if they could get their offense going. The Bobcats were only able to get a couple of yards, the Bulldogs holding them to a three and out.

On the returning possession for the Bulldogs, quarterback Trevon Wofford found Tight End Dalton Bowman for a 20-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good, giving the Bulldogs a 7 point lead over the Bobcats with 5:18 left to play in the first quarter.

After the touchdown, both teams’ defenses forced multiple three and out leaving the score at 7-0 going into the second quarter.

At the start of the second quarter, the Bulldogs drove down the field where running back Quan Neal would score on a 19-yard reverse. The PAT was good, putting the Bulldogs over the Bobcats 14-0 with 10:29 left in the second quarter.

After the touchdown, the Bobcats went out to receive the ball. Griffin Cagle returned the ball to the 30-yard line, giving the Bobcats great field position for the drive.

The Bobcats kept the momentum up, with running back Kamron Engler punching it in from the 1-yard line. The PAT from Rodrigo Casas was good. The Bobcats trailed the Bulldogs 7-14 with 7:47 left in the second quarter.

Late in the second quarter, Bulldogs quarterback Trevon Wofford found Quan Neal for a 25-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good, putting the Bulldogs over the Bobcats 21-7 with 3:17 left in the second quarter.

The Bobcats tried to score before the first half was over, but Cedartown’s defense forced another three and out, denying them the opportunity.

Cedartown’s offense came back with a little over two minutes left in the half. They ran their two-minute offense and found a way to score, with running back Tony Mathis running in the 6-yard touchdown. The PAT was unsuccessful, putting the Bulldogs over the Bobcats 27-7 with 1:15 left in the second quarter.

The Bobcats responded quickly to the Bulldog touchdown, with Tyler Buntin finding Griffin Cagle for a 73-yard touchdown. The PAT by Rodrigo Casas was good, putting the score at 27-14 to end the first half.

The Bobcats got the ball to begin the second half. The Bulldogs defense caused the Bobcats to fumble on a sack.

Coming out to play, the Bobcats defense caused the Bulldogs to go three and out multiple times.

At the end of the third, the Bulldogs drove the field, ending the quarter with a 19-yard touchdown from Tony Mathis. The PAT after was good, putting the Bulldogs over the Bobcats 34-14.

Despite many efforts to catch up, the Bulldog defense denied the Bobcats any chance of scoring. With 4:12 left to go, Kobe Prior took in a 22-yard interception for a touchdown, putting the Bulldogs over the Bobcats 41-14 to end the game.

Gilmer will be off this week, but will play at home, September 16th, against the Murphy Bulldogs.
