• Advanced Curriculum Night will be held Monday, September 26th, at 6:00 p.m., in the GHS theater. Information on honors, Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment/Move On When Ready courses is shared at this event. Our faculty will present and college representatives will introduce MOWR requirements. Parents of students in grades 8 – 12 are welcome to attend.
• For students and parents interested in Dual Enrollment/Move On When Ready for spring 2017, information sessions will be held on 9-30 and 10-14 at the school during lunch. Space is limited, so you must contact your child’s counselor in advance to see whether your child is eligible and to sign up for these sessions.

Feature of the Week from GHS Counselors: Post-Secondary (After High School) Choices
There are numerous options a student has for after high school graduation, such as on-the-job training, military service, trade school, technical school, 2-year college, and 4-year college or university. Each of these has benefits and drawbacks and requires planning.
Some fields, such as industrial construction, plumbing, electrical work, and ironwork may require on-the-job training, or apprenticeships, to get started. A lot of people do not realize that a trade school can prepare someone for a career field such as welding. Trade schools are usually for a shorter period of time and may be less expensive than other options. A technical school or technical college is another option for those who may not wish to pursue a four-year degree but who want to learn a skilled occupation. These schools offer certificates, diplomas, and degrees in various fields such as nursing or auto mechanics. Students may also find this a more affordable option to take core college requirements. Some technical schools and community colleges offer a two-year college degree, known as an associate’s degree, in occupations such as paralegal services or nursing as well.
