Mr. Frederick Emerson “Fred” Chastain: Obituary

Mr. Frederick Emerson “Fred” Chastain, age 68 of Ellijay, Georgia passed on Friday morning, December 2, 2016, at the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Georgia. He was born July 11, 1948 in Jasper, GA to his late parents Olen Brown Chastain and Flora Roselle Holt Chastain.. Mr. Chastain was a graduate of Gilmer High School and was a self employed plumber. Fred was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for 53 years and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include wife of 45 years, Patricia Newton Chastain of the home in Ellijay, GA; daughter, Angelia Chastain of Jasper, GA.; Son and daughter-in-law Alan & Tara Caylor of Canton, GA; Grandchildren Makaila Caylor, Seth Caylor & Matthew Caylor; Sisters and brother-in-law Annette Hefner and Sara and Michael Cantrell, all of Ellijay, GA; Brother and sister-in-law James & Karen Chastain of Chattanooga, TN; Sister-in-law, Helen Nicholson of Jasper, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service were held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 4th, 2016 from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Cantrell and Rev. Gene Childers officiating. Music and vocals were by the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Choir. Pallbearers were Wayne Holt, Johnny Chastain, Don Roberts, Matthew Caylor, Spencer Hefner, Jerry Wishon, Steve Siniard and Eddie Weaver. A military graveside service immediately followed in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church c/o Jerry Wishon, 42 North Jones Mill Road, Ellijay, GA 30540, in memory of Mr. Chastain.
