Mr. Joseph “Joe” Henry James: Obituary

Mr. Joseph “Joe” Henry James, age 56 of the Boardtown community, Ellijay, GA passed on Sunday morning, February 5th, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. James was born July 7, 1960 in Ellijay, GA. He was a member of Northcutt Baptist Church, a graduate of Gilmer High School, Class of 1978, and retired from the GA DOT after working for 33 years, and also served as a road construction supervisor for Cherokee County. Joe is preceded in death by his mother, Vinnie Ruth Gooch James and brother, Billy Ray Barnard.

Survivors include his son, Joseph Thomas James of Ellijay, GA; father, Rev. Henry Thomas “HT” James of Ellijay, GA; Sisters, Deborah James and Ann Barnard, both of Atlanta, GA; Brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Ganene Barnard of Palm Coast, FL; Special friend, Susan James of Ellijay, GA and family friend Carol Willingham of Atlanta, GA also survives. The family would like to thank Lorena Thompson for her loving care and support to Joe.

Family will receive friends from 4-8pm on Tuesday, February 7th, 2017 and from 4-8pm on Wednesday, February 8th, 2017 at the Logan Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Thursday, February 9th, 2017 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Kerr, Rev. Roy Griggs and Rev. Tony Withrow officiating. Music and vocals will be by Bill McVey. Graveside interment will follow in the James Cemetery with Eddie Woodard, Steve Parks, Arnold Banks, Jeremy Ledford, Harold Norton, Eddie Ellington, Nathan Cheek and Ronnie Chester serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott McCoy, David Hayes, Eddie Brooks, Franklin Harper, Matthew Withrow, Benny Dunn, Gene James, George James, Charles Coldwell, Mack Logan, Willard Jones, Wayne Sluder, Mickey Hancock, John Barnes, Luke Chastain, Guy Cheek, Emuel Sanford, Don Sams and Scott Watkins.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at 200 West Emery St., Suite #3, Dalton, GA 30720 in memory of Mr. James.
