News/Announcements from the GHS Counseling Department
This Week’s Feature: College and Scholarship Applications
This is the time of year when many high schoolers are applying to college or technical school. If you are a student who is unsure of whether you have gotten everything turned in to apply to your college or technical school of choice, or who does not know whether you have been admitted yet, it is always a good idea to log into your account with that college and check your status. If you are unable to log in, you should contact the admissions office of your school of choice to check on these items. Do not wait to do this; go ahead now so you do not have any unpleasant surprises later!
Applying for scholarships is also necessary for most students who have plans to continue their education. There are local scholarships such as those offered through the Gilmer Education Foundation. Students should see their advisor or counselor if they do not already have an application. These are due March 24th. There are other kinds of scholarships as well; there is more information on the GHS guidance web page at https://sites.google.com/a/gilmerschools.com/ghs-scholarship-page/home. Students also need to contact the financial aid office at their college of choice to find out more about other financial aid they might be able to obtain.
It is important to be proactive and check on college application status and options for financial aid to make the most of those opportunities.
