Article and Photos By Leah Davis

On March 4th, the Gilmer Bobcats hosted the Rebels in a double header determined to take down their rival.

Drew Healan winning run for The Bobcats

The Rebels took the lead scoring two runs in the first inning at bat leading to at 2-1 game in the third, but they couldn’t stop Rebel’s River Dixon from hitting a home run.

In the fourth inning, the Bobcats were able to hold off the Rebels with awesome defense taking the lead with a 3-run comeback. Austin Daman and Will Barnes were on base, and Tatum Chadwick hit a single earning him a double RBI. Evan Frady also scored in the fourth with a single RBI, giving The Bobcats the 4-3 lead.

A hard fought battle ensued with the Rebels responding with a single RBI tying the game 4-4.

Tensions grew as the teams entered the seventh tied-up, Gilmer’s Defense held strong to stop Fannin from gaining any runs. Fans erupted late in the inning as Drew Healan hit a triple, but, ultimately, it was McKinley Chadwick’s single that drove Healan home for the game winning score. The Bobcats left the Rebels hanging with the final score, 5-4.

The second game of the series did not follow suit, however, as the Bobcats fell to the Rebels.

Fannin’s Rebels were out for revenge from first game ready to play ball with Will Shirah earning a single RBI in the first, putting the Rebels on the board, 1-0.

The Rebels exploded in the second, though, scoring five runs over the Bobcat’s defense. Never quite recovering from this, Gilmer entered the seventh down 6-0.

It was the seventh inning that finally saw signs of life for Gilmer as McKinley Chadwick managed to strike out three of the The Rebel players closing down Rebels offense. In their last chance to come back, Cochran hit a double earning himself a single RBI to bring Austin Daman home.

The one score was not enough to beat the Rebels dominating second game of double header. They walked away with the final game score at 6-1.
