In a joint effort by the Gilmer Sheriff’s Office, Zell Miller Mtn Parkway Drug Task Force, the Ga Dept of Community Supervision (Probation/Parole) and Pre-trial probation officer Larry Clemens, officers netted the largest Methamphetamine bust in Gilmer history.
On Wednesday, August 9, information during an investigation led officers to a residence on the upper end of Big Creek Rd where Joey David Abernathy resided.
During a search of the residence, a “kilo” ( 2.2 pounds) of methamphetamine was discovered. Abernathy was taken into custody for Trafficking Methamphetamine and probation violation.
Sheriff Stacy Nicholson stated he attributes this arrest to three things: team effort, probation officer Larry Clemens having his “ear to the ground” and the recent man power increase of the drug task force. (All three sheriff’s associated with ZMMPDTF have recently detached an employee to the existing man power effectively doubling its personnel.)
