Mrs. Tamra Gale Parsons Yong Acree: Obituary

Tamra Gale Parsons Yong Acree of Ellijay, died Monday, November 6, 2017.

She was born August 2, 1940 in Goshen, Indiana to the late Beatrice and Walter Parsons. Tamra was a 1958 graduate of Planta High School in Tampa, FL and a 1961 graduate of Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing.

Her long nursing career began with years on the maternal child floors and included 22 years of nursing professorship at Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing and Dekalb College (now Perimeter). Along the way she returned to school to finish her bachelors of nursing at Tift College and Masters in Maternal Child at Medical College of Georgia. Always striving to further her education she returned to Ga. State in 1995 to obtain a post masters pediatric nurse practitioner certification. After retirement as a pediatric nurse practitioner at N. Cobb Peds. Tamra took additional course work to become a certified faith community nurse and volunteered as parish nurse at Ellijay First United Methodist Church.

Tamra was married to the late Dr. Kai C. Yong from 1961-1988 and had 3 children. Tamra and Kai traveled the world visiting his family in Malaysia and other wonders of the world. In 2004 Tamra married Warren Acree of Ellijay and they continued her love for traveling. Dividing their time between Tampa, FL and their home in Ellijay Tamra and Warren were both active at Ellijay FUMC and Oakhurst UMC in Seminole, FL.

Tamra was preceeded in death by her parents, and her siblings Brenda Parsons Hanes and Walter Parsons, Jr. She is survived in death by her husband Warren Acree; children, Kailynn Yong Boomer (Doug Boomer), Waylon Yong (Merle Soodyall Yong), Teilynn Yong Ivey (Dallas Ivey), step-son John Acree, and Step-son David Acree (Angelica Acree); and 9 grandchildren, Curran, Kenny, Kailey, Alyana, Bryson, Adelyn, Dash, Jane, and Alexis.

In Lieu of Flowers the family would like you to make a donation to your favorite charity in her name. Visitation for Tamra will be Friday, November 10 at Bernhardt Funeral Home at 163 River Street, Ellijay, GA from 4pm-7pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 11 at 1:00 pm at the Ellijay First United Methodist at 75 Mc Cutchen Street, Ellijay, GA. with Dr. Thom Shore, Rev. Gill McGinnis and Rev. Alan Tarr officiating.  Internment will be in Tampa, FL on December 15, 2017.
