Gilmer under flood watch

ELLIJAY, Ga. – Gilmer County is already feeling pressure from the rainfall with river and lake levels rising.

As of late afternoon, water levels have risen to dangerous levels threatening to flood over into lower areas such as River Park. In outer areas of the county, creeks and streams have already drawn concern from citizens. Gilmer County is still under a flood warning until tomorrow morning, according to the National Weather Service, who said,

“Areas of moderate to occasionally heavy rain will continue
across north and central Georgia through tonight. Additional rainfall amounts up to an inch are likely with isolated higher amounts possible. These rainfall amounts will likely lead to flooding, especially across far northeast Georgia.”

To the south, Pickens County has already had roads, such as Pettit Road and Mineral Springs Road North, blocked from the rising waters.  Authorities are urging caution with citizens to continue monitoring the situation should it worsen.
