Robert W. Smith: Obituary

Rev. Robert W. Smith, Sr. age 89, of Ellijay, died Thursday, June 21, 2018.

Rev. Smith was born, May 2, 1929, in Chattanooga, TN, the son of the late John Baynard and Alma Rennick Smith.  After high school, he attended Emory’s Chandler School of Theology as a Methodist Minister, where he graduated in 1950. After graduation he pastored many churches across Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia, finally settling in the Chattanooga area.

He came with his family to Ellijay in 1976, establishing a Christian Farm, dedicated to men seeking mental rehabilitation. Rev. Smith pastored in many capacities in the Ellijay area and was involved for many years with HCJB International Christian Radio Ministry developing electronic transmitting radio equipment which is still in use all over the world. At the time of his passing he was a member of the Covenant Community Church. He was beloved by all.

He is preceded in death by his; parents, siblings, wife of 60 years Dorothy Creasman Smith, January 18,2010 and son, Joseph B. Smith, July 1,2011.

Survivors include; children and spouses; Bob and Linda Smith, Ruth and Mickey Moskovitz all of Ellijay, grandchildren, Jonathan and Heather Smith, Becca and Kerry Conn, David Smith, Joel and Leah Smith, David and Malory Moskovitz and Amy Moskovitz. Great grandchildren; Dillon Terry, Justin Howell, Nick Smith, Matthew Smith, Chloe Smith, Jacob Farris, Barrett Smith, Cameron Conn, Madelyn Conn, Miley Conn, Evaleigh Smith, Jeriah Smith, Eliam Smith, Dahlia Smith and a new baby due any day.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 24, 2018, at 4:00pm from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Fields, Revs. John and Ruth Stanley and other friends officiating. Interment will be in the Cartecay United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will meet with friends Sunday from 3:00pm until 4:00pm at the funeral home and they request if you have a special memory of Rev. Smith, please write it down or you may share it in person during the services.
