Bobcat Ejections Possibly Damper 2018 Season

On Friday 3 ejections in the game against Rabun Gap could slow the progression of the 2018 Bobcats.  Head Coach Casey Wingard and two key players face possible suspensions under the GHSA rules.

The Officials (North Carolina) flagged the Bobcats for a sideline interference when the Linesman struck an assistant coach as he ran down the sideline following a play.  This penalty is charged to the head coach of the offending team.  In the second quarter after several questionable calls by the officials, assistant coaches for Gilmer were very enthusiastically voicing their opinions to the linesman on the officiating crew,  an unsportsmanlike conduct flag was thrown at that point and also charged to the Head Coach.

The High school ruling states:  GHSA Constitution and By-Laws- 2.72.  Any player, coach, or team attendant who is ejected from a GHSA contest shall be suspended from all levels of competition (i.e., varsity or sub-varsity) in that sport or activity (regular season or playoffs) until the period of suspension has expired. NOTE: Ejection penalties must be served at the next contest regardless of whether or not the school has received notice from the GHSA office by that time.
(a) Ejections are based on judgment calls by an official and are not reviewable or reversible.
(b) A coach shall have no role nor be in attendance at pre-contest warm-ups or activities, and shall not be
in attendance at contests until the period of suspension has expired.
(c) A player or team attendant may not be on the competitive area nor in the team bench area during any contest until the period of suspension has expired.
(d) The period of suspension resulting from an ejection will expire as follows:
(1) Football: after the individual has been withheld from the next-scheduled game at the level at which
the ejection occurred (and all contests at any other level). This game being a non-GHSA competition Team FYN Sports has reached out to our sources to see if the GHSA rules apply in this situation.

Two of the Varsity Bobcats (both starters) were also removed from the game after an altercation initiated by a player from the Rabun Gap team.  The above paragraph would also apply to the players involved. A comment made by one of the Carolina Officials stated that these ejections would not be reported due to this game being a non-GHSA sanctioned event and later stated that these players would have to sit out three game.  This remark cannot be found to be accurate in any High School football rule book.  Stay with Fetch Your News and Team FYN Sports for further updates as more information comes in.
