Lady Cats Get Region Win Over Raiders

Tuesday afternoon had the Lady Raiders of Southeast Whitfield enter the dugout at the home of the Lady Cats of Gilmer High School.  Looking to get a big region win Jaylin Vick and Hannah Bennett would come together in a combined effort to shut down their region opponet in Southeast Whitfield.

Vick started the game with Bennett coming in as relief and in their effort shut down the offense of the Lady Raiders.  Combined stats for these ladies were 103 pitches with five strikeouts and no walks.  These two under handers allowed only 2 runs(both earned) and 8 hits over 7 innings.  Vick would earn the victory for the Lady Cats.  With a great game behind these two, the Lady Cats defense played flawless committing no errors in a solid performance.  At the plate the batters for Gilmer showed out!    In less than a blink of the eyes the lead off batter in Mallory Kiser was standing on second base in scoring position with a double.  Four runs poured in during that half inning to start the game for the Lady Cats.  Getting the hits in the bottom of the first were Kiser(double), Chadwick(single), Bennett(single), Elliot(single), and Dale with a double.  Even though the Lady Cats would never look back it was was a quick 3 outs from the Lady Raiders before the offense would start again for Gilmer.  With hits from Kiser, Bennett and Elliot the Lady Cats added two more to the board in their half of the second and one more in the third giving the Lady Cats a 7-1 lead heading into the fourth.  The lady Raiders scored one in the third and added one in the fourth.  That would end the scoring for Southeast Whitfield in the game.  The Lady Cats added one more run in the sixth inning just for good measure to take a the region victory by a score of 8-2.

On a day where it seemed the Lady Cats couldn’t miss the ball several had outstanding at bats.  Leading the way was Hannah Bennett.  Bennett was 4-4 with 2 singles and 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s.  Other LAdy Cats with a very good day at the plate were Mallory Kiser(3-3 with 3 runs scored), Carly Chadwick(3-4 with 1 RBI and a run scored), Taylor Elliott(2-3 with 1 RBI and a run scored), and Emily Dale(2-3 with 3 RBI’s).  The Lady Cats had 14 hits and scored 8 runs(1 unearned) in the 8-2 victory over the Lady Raiders of Southeast Whitfield.

Next up for the Lady Cats of Gilmer will be Monday September 10th as Heritage comes to Ellijay for a region match up.  Scheduled start time is 5:55 PM.  Go Lady Cats!
