Robert “Bob” Vernon Leftwich: Obituary

Dr. Robert “Bob” Vernon Leftwich, age 78 of Ellijay, GA passed Friday morning, October 12^th, 2018 at the Grandview Healthcare Center in Jasper, GA.

Dr. Leftwich was born June 21^st, 1940 in Columbus, GA to his late parents, John Vernon and Johnnie Amanda Funderburk Leftwich.  Bob served honorably in the United States Air Force during Vietnam.  Dr. Leftwich earned his bachelor’s degree from Troy State College in 1961 and later his doctorate degree from the University of Georgia.  He worked as an educator for over thirty years, serving the last 11 years of his career in the Gilmer County School System.  Bob was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church.  His sister, Patricia Leftwich Pommer, precedes him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann Davis Leftwich of the home in Ellijay, GA; son, Kevin Leftwich of Duluth, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and John Tomlinson of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Mark Davis Tomlinson and Patrick Daniel Tomlinson.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, October 16^th, 2018 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Warren Williams and Rev. Randall Smith officiating.  Music and vocals will be by Whitney Burnette and Rev. Irene Wofford.  His fellow Gideons will serve as pallbearers.

Military graveside rites will be performed immediately following the funeral service in the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with military rites performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

Graveside interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at 12:30pm on Wednesday, October 17^th, 2018.

Family will receive friends from 12 noon until the service hour at 2pm on Tuesday, October 16^th, 2018 at the Logan Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Gideons International, Ellijay Camp, P.O. Box 1704, Ellijay, GA 30540 or to the Gilmer Christian Learning Center, P.O. Box 471, Ellijay, GA 30540 in memory of Dr. Leftwich.

The family would like to thank the staff of Grandview Healthcare Center and Georgia Mountains Hospice for their excellent care of Dr. Leftwich during this difficult time.
