Gilmer Pulls Away Late to send Wolves Home Empty Handed

The Bobcats run game proved to be too much for Wesleyan as the Bobcats grab an impressive win in their region opener over the Wolves. The Bobcats ran the ball 61 times for a total of 339 yards and the three headed ground game monster struck again as Watkins, Kiker, and Titus combined for 5 TDs. Wesleyan was able to keep this one close, but the Bobcats defense showed up in a big way in the second half as they held the Wolves to just 6 points down the stretch.

Team Notes

Will Kiker once again had a very impressive showing as he totaled 133 yards on 14 attempts and 2 TDs. Hunter Watkins ran the ball 19 times for 64 yards and 2 TDS, while Brock Titus added 88 yards and another TD. QB Isaac Rellinger threw the ball only twice for 27 yards, but he also added 51 yards on the ground as well. Kiker and Aspen Hataway led the team in tackles with 6 each, while Kendall Sanders and Ian Berry each notched a TFL. Gilmer held the Wolves to 261 yards of offense and really limited their offense in the second half, leading to them securing the win.

For Wesleyan, QB Ben Brown had himself a night going 22 for 28, 217 yards and 2 TDs. His favorite target, Jamie Tremble, brought in 8 receptions for 115 yards and a TD. Will Tucker brough in the other Brown TD throw, on his only catch of the game. The Wolves failed to establish the ground game as the Bobcats held them to just 44 yards, though Townes Hardy was able to tally a rushing TD. Their defense was unable to stop the run game as they allowed a total of 339 yards on the ground.

Look Ahead

Wesleyan now falls to 1-4 on the year and will host the undefeated Lumpkin County Indians next Friday night. As for the Bobcats they move to 4-1 on the season and will travel to West Hall (1-4) to take on the Spartans next Friday night.
