GILMER COUNTY, Ga. – According to a statement issued by Fannin County Sheriff Dane Kirby, on Friday, March 15, due to the joint efforts of multiple agencies, a major drug bust occurred resulting in the arrest of three people.
“The Fannin County Sheriffs Office, GBI Appalachian Drug Enforcement Office, Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad, Union County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI Conasauga Safe Streets Task Force acted on information from a long term investigation that resulted in a traffic stop in Gilmer County by these agencies and the Gilmer County Sheriffs Office,” according to the release.
As a result of the traffic stop, approximately three kilograms of methamphetamine were seized and three people were arrested.
Kenneth Lee Greene, Randy Nathaniel Greene and Abbigayle Owens are all facing serious drug charges.
In connection with the drugs found during the traffic stop, information was also obtained that led to a search warrant being served at a residence in Pickens County.
“During this search, approximately 15 kilograms of methamphetamine, approx. $20,000 in cash, two firearms, a 2024 Chevrolet 2500 pickup, a 2024 Haulmark enclosed trailer and a Chevrolet Camaro was seized. Donna Hyatt is facing drug and other charges as a result,” according to the release.
Sheriff Kirby stated that this is still an open and continuing investigation that will result in the arrest of others.
He emphasized that he would like to ‘extend his sincere gratitude to all the agencies who participated in this operation and that this is the perfect example of how relationships with other agencies and networking abilities produce results that ultimately put major drug dealers out of business.’
Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson also applauded the teamwork of all the agencies involved.
Sheriff Nicholson stated, “This investigation netted approximately 19 kilograms (roughly 40 pounds) of methamphetamines and is a shining example of great investigative work as well as interagency cooperation between the Appalachian corridor Sheriff’s Offices of Gilmer, Fannin, Pickens, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. My congratulations to all on an excellent case.”
Considering that this is still an open investigation, FYN will update this post as more information becomes available.
