Gilmer Steals Series From Lumpkin In Walk-off Fashion

Ethan McCollum came to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning in a 4-4 tie game between the Gilmer Bobcats and the Lumpkin Indians. With a runner on third and no outs, McCollum just needed to put the bat on the ball and the Indians could take the series win over Lumpkin.

After fouling off three pitches, McCollum put one in play and even though it was just a grounder to first base, it was allowed for Noah Gutillo to scamper across home plate for the game-winning run as Gilmer took the series with a 5-4 victory.

McCollum was the hero all-around for the Cats, as he was also the starting pitcher. He lasted 5 innings and gave up three runs (1 earned run) on 4 hits, while striking out 8 batters. Haden West came on in relief and got the Win for Gilmer, throwing 2 innings and allowing 1 run on 2 hits.

Eli Cooper went 3-4 at the plate to lead the Bobcats in hits, while McCollum, Eli Cooper, Noah Gutillo, Blake Grizzle, and Dalton Crisp each drove in one run.

Lumpkin County used a slew of pitchers in the final game of this three-game series, as 4 different Indians took the mound.

The Indians were led at the plate by Mason Hester, who went 3-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

Gilmer will take on #2 ranked Pickens on Monday, while Lumpkin will face Dawson County on Tuesday.
