The North Georgia Christian Academy Mariners volleyball team held a scrimmage against the parents and staff, in a game described by head coach, Tina Mabry, as, “Just for fun.” Despite being expected to administer a beat down of Biblical proportions, the heavily favored youngsters were taken to the wire by their more mature, but less experienced opponents. The Mariners emerged victorious, winning the best of five series 3-2 with a thrilling extra points match 28-26.The Mariners easily submerged the grown and not as flexible crowd, 25-19 in the first contest. However, the parents proved to be resilient, winning game two 25-17.

The “oldies but goodies” built a lead early, until falling behind 12-11, in game three. The young whippersnappers whipped themselves into a frenzy. Out to prove that “Parents Don’t Just Understand” volleyball, the baby ballers outscored their counterparts 13-2 to win 25-13 and take a 2-1 lead.

When it seemed that the parents lack of experience would be the ultimate Albatross, the parents picked up their second wind, and tied the series with a stunning 25-11 victory to even the series 2-2.

The final game was a back and forth affair, with the parents being down 24-19, before a 5-0 run tied the game at 24-24. The Mariners made it to 25 first, however, like a playground pick up game, a team must win by two to secure victory. The parents pulled off two more ties, but the winning winds were under the Mariners’ sails, securing the 28-26 victory.
