The Gilmer High School Lady Cats Cheer Camp for girls aged 4-14 was held recently. GHS head competition cheer leading coaches, Nikki Hensley (varsity) and Melissa Long (JV), held the annual camp as a fundraiser for the Lady Cats Cheer leading program.Hensley described the camp thusly,

“This is our biggest fundraiser that we do every year. It’s just to bring in every little girl from the community to give them a sneak peek into what cheer leading is like. It’s just mainly geared towards, for the younger girls, the spirit cheer leading, and as they get older we move into the competition cheer leading.”

Hensley and Long both competed as cheer leaders while students as GHS. Hensley competed collegiality at the Illustrious Kennesaw State University, winning a national championship. After competitive cheer leading took a brief hiatus, Hensley and Long rebooted the program due to numerous requests from Lady Cats cheer leaders.

“They were begging and begging,” said Hensley.

The Lady Cats will enter the second season of competition cheer under Hensley and Long, with plenty of future cheerleaders willing to join the fold, as evidenced by the attendees at the camp. Videos of the final performances can be viewed below.
