Sheriff Nicholson Announces Firearms Safety Class for Women

Legal Notice

Sheriff Nicholson announces the following:

Due to many requests, the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office plans to hold a 4-hour Firearms Safety class for women. Our agency has received numerous inquiries about this type of class as many women are obtaining their concealed carry gun permit and purchasing firearms and then realizing they don’t know the appropriate ways of safely handling their firearm.

The purpose of this class will be to give introductory instruction on the safe handling of a handgun, laws pertaining to the carrying of a firearm, and introductory marksmanship. The class will consist of four (4) hours of classroom instruction followed by two (2) hours of firearm’s orientation on the range.

Anyone interested must make reservations fast as the class will be limited to ten (10) participants. Interested parties please contact Captain Adam Smith at 706-515-2868 or by email at [email protected].

Requirements for participation are:
• As this is a handgun safety class for women, only those above the age of 21 years will be considered.
• A valid concealed carry permit OR a criminal background check will be required for those who are interested and participating.
• No one who is a petitioner or respondent of a current TPO will be considered for participation in this course.
