Bobcat Wrestlers Take 2nd in Parkview Invitational

There was no sleeping in for the B,obcat wrestling team as they boarded the bus at 5:50 AM Wednesday morning. By 8:45, they were on the mats at The Parkview Invitational in Lilburn. The tournament hosted 12 teams, including Lumpkin. Union Grove, Loganville, Walton, Eastside, Social Cirlcle, Peachtree Ridge, Woodland, Alexander, and Archer High Schools.

The Cats had a easy time with Union Grove and Social Circle, winning 54-23 and 50-22 respectively, before facing 6A Parkview. Gilmer was down 31-28 going into the last match, but 2011 State Champion Cameron Perry kept his team in the winners bracket with a tech fall, making the final score 33-31 for the Cats.

The next round against 5A Woodland saw Gilmer again on the ropes, down 33-17 with three matches to go. This time Perry, Brady McCollum and Jake Wheeler came through with must-have pins to top Woodland 35-33.

Missing six starters, the Bobcats lost the first place trophy to 6A Archer 52-6.
