Proverbs 6:16-19 “There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.” O God of love, we are reminded that there are things which you do hate: an arrogant spirit that vaunts itself against both you and man, a lying tongue that has no regard for truth, a violent personality that has no control of anger, a heart that is set on nothing else except that which will work for its advantage, feet that take one to evil opportunities, and persons who give a false witness and break up relationships by planting seeds of discord. These seven deadly sins are a curse on our society.
We see these sins in operation all around us. They make up the news reports throughout the day. They are often the substance of movies and television. They are the issues in our judicial system. They are the conflicts between nations. They are the reason for broken families.
Help us as Christians to be salt and light in this decaying society. Our prayer is made in the awareness that Jesus can change all of this in those who come in faith to him.
