JV Bobcats Burnt in Dragons’ Den

The Gilmer High School Bobcats junior varsity football team traveled down 515 to take on the heated rival, Dragons of Pickens High School. The “Cats” got caught in the clutches of the Dragons, as Gilmer got roasted, 32-8.The Bobcats began the night down 8-0, a mere 19 seconds into the game, as the Dragons returned the opening kick-off for a touchdown.

On the ensuing drive, the “Cats” clawed out a 56 yard 5:55 drive that tied the game at 8-8 after a one yard touchdown plunge by Matthew Waddell, and a successful two point conversion. It would be the last score for the visitors.

Pickens picked the lead back up with 38.5 left in the first quarter, after a 60 yard drive ended with a one yard touchdown run, and successful two point conversion put Pickens up 16-8.

Pickens looked poised to increase the lead after Gilmer turned the ball over on downs on its drive and the Dragons moved the ball down to the Gilmer two yard line; however, Josh White picked off a Pickens pass in the end zone just before the half ended, and the score remained 16-8 at the break.

The Bobcats received the second half kick-off but turned the ball over at midfield, via fumble, on the fourth play of the drive. The Dragons took advantage, scoring with 5:30 left in the third to take a 24-8 lead.

Gilmer’s offense went three and out on the next possession; however, the “Cats’” defense forced a turnover on downs on Pickens’ possession.

After earning one first down, Gilmer gave the ball back to Pickens, via punt. Four plays later Pickens picked up another score and two point conversion for the game’s final score, securing the 32-8 win for the home team.
