The Gilmer High School Bobcats were unable to ride a considerable height advantage to win against Our Lady of Mercy who coincidentally share the same moniker as their hosts. The hometown Bobcats lost 69-61.The Gilmer Bobcats had clear advantage in height but were done in by the quickness and hustle of the Bobcats from Our Lady of Mercy. The visiting Bobcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the home team battled back to take a 16-12 lead.

The home team was able to push the lead up to 29-15 with just over four minutes left in the first half, when the visitors went on an 11-0 run to close the half down by three 29-26.

The visiting Bobcats continued their run, with two quick buckets that gave them a 30-29 lead, and a 15-0 run. Aaron Evans, of Gilmer, finally broke the drought. The third quarter continued back and forth with each team possessing the lead several times. Our Lady of Mercy lead 50-47 going into the final period.

Gilmer was done in by a flurry of free throws after committing their eighth foul, which guarantees the opponent at least one free throw, with six minutes still to go in the game. They still were able to tie the game 55-55 with just under four minutes left before eventually falling eight points short.
