Ellijay Road Improvement Projects Aim to Relieve Congestion

A few minor road improvement projects are underway this week in Ellijay. Funded by a DOT paving grant, the projects are located on Progress Road, Sailors Drive, and South Main Street near the entrance to North Georgia Medical Center.Fetchyournews.com caught up with a local work crew, led by Stacey Rogers, and Mayor Hoyle at the road widening project on South Main Street/Highway 5. As the mayor explained, the project’s goal is to relieve congestion by adding a southbound right-hand turn lane leading into the Medical Center entrance at Hospital Circle.

Today local crews were stripping existing pavement and preparing the roadways for widening. If weather permits, crews from Northwest Georgia Paving will pave the projects later this week.
