Mountain Ridge Garden Shop

Neighborhood Merchants

If you spend any time in Ellijay, you’ve probably noticed the large red barn on River Street, overlooking the Ellijay River and Industrial Boulevard. This eye-catching piece of real estate is now home to Penny Trentman’s one-of-a-kind Mountain Ridge Garden Shop. Penny is quite proud of what she has put together in this old sawmill-turned garden shop. She has designed an experience for her customers that not only includes shopping, but education and fun as well.

Inside the building, a variety of home accent items and the work of several local artists are for sale, including a collection of hand-made stained glass pieces. The shop also features an ever-changing selection of garden accent items, western home décor, and a pet corner with locally made organic dog treats.

In order to educate her guests on the science and art of gardening, Penny runs a workshop on Saturday mornings that covers a different topic each week. Parents can relax and take in a gardening lesson while the kids have fun with coloring books and toys in their own entertainment area. The shop even has a small café with enough complimentary coffee and tea to pacify any cranky spouse.

Outside, the Mountain Ridge Garden Shop’s nursery features a unique, highly local selection of plants. Arranged in a walkable, park-like layout, the nursery offers fruit trees, berries, local produce, potted plants, and more. The nursery also features folk art and garden ornaments, including chainsaw-sculpted wooden bears made by a local artist.
