Job Opening / Stan King Out as Chief Property Tax Appraiser / Mr. King Wanted a Pay Raise, Tax Assessor Board Said NO.

Stan King, Gilmer’s Chief Appraiser, presented the Board of Assessors his resignation last night, June 16th, effective immediately with a two week notice. Mr. King has told the Board he plans to return to the consulting field. FYN has requested a comment from Jeff Holloway Chairman of the Board of Assessors.

The position of Chief Appraiser was held by Stan King for only 2 months. Mr. King was elevated from Assistant Chief Appraiser to Chief after the board voted on April 21st to dismiss former Chief, Dawn Pruett.

FYN spoke with Jeff Holloway, the Chairman of the Tax Assessor Board, concerning Mr. King’s resignation. Mr. King let the board know that he had another job offer and without a pay raise he would be inclined to take the offer. Mr. Holloway said Mr. King asked for an immediate increase amount and also a long term amount. Mr. Holloway told us the short term amount may have been doable but the long term was not.

Gilmer County could not compete with the offer Mr. King received from someone else. Holloway went on to tell FYN that the job was posted and it would take several weeks to receive and review resumes. The Chief Appraiser position requires a candidate to be a level 3 appraiser.

King’s departure leaves the county with only level 2 appraisers. Mr. Holloway said that since the county was not going to have an assistant appraiser that they really needed a level 4 appraiser for the Chief position but a level 3 would meet requirements.

He also said this would not change anything about getting the tax digest out. While the digest will move forward, the board will need to meet to prepare a plan for appeals.
