Bobcat Boss: Jordan Hice

Team FYN Sports

Coach Jordan Hice will be leading the Gilmer High School Bobcats’ basketball team beginning in the upcoming season. Hice, has former experience within the Gilmer County School System, including as an assistant at Gilmer High, most recently at Clear Creek Middle School. In order to ensure an easier transition, Hice has incorporated many of the fundamental drills from his previous practices into his work with the varsity squad that is currently under his stewardship.

“A lot of the fundamental drills that we did at the eighth grade and the seventh grade levels, those eighth graders who are now ninth graders, we’re still doing those same fundamental drills the beginning of practice,”

Hice said.

“That’s kind of how I had it planned last year [at Clear Creek]. I knew kind of the that [previous head basketball] Coach Fry was doing fundamentally, so I did all those fundamental drills at the middle school so that when they got to high school they already knew it.”

Hice also incorporated some of the same offenses and defenses, in order to further establish continuity with in the Gilmer School System.

“We put in the same press the same press offense, some of the same zone offenses and man offenses, that way that have the jump start by the time the got up here to high school.”

Hice spoke of adding in his own ingredients to the Bobcat Basketball soup as well.

“We’ve done a lot, we’ve added some new things, we’ve kept some of the same offenses that we ran last year but I’ve also added to it.”

After only losing only two seniors from last year’s squad, Hice looks forward to get big contributions from his four rising seniors, Ryan Lowery, Austin White, Ben Cole and Nathan Voyles. Lowery is currently healing from a broken arm and has not been able to participate in the off season camps a long with his teammates; however, Hice reported that his team, “stepped it up in his absence.”
