“New York Says Thank You” Movie Premiere

Build an Ark

“New York Says Thank You” the movie is about the spirit of the American people and how rewarding it is one returns kindness shown in a time of need by “paying it forward.” Jeff Parness, a New Yorker, whose son Evan started a rolling train when he decided to send his toys to children that were victims of wildfires in California, leads a group of volunteers to different devastated areas of the country in order to help the healing process. One can easily find the history of New York Says Thank You, with a quick google search or by perusing fetchyournews.com. The movie is not so much about the history of the organization, nor about the organization itself. The movie is about the spirit that guides volunteers from all over the United States to take part in the betterment of people who are in desperate need of assistance.

Small towns all across America showed an outpouring of support and love for a city that was emotionally and physically ravaged by the terrorist attacks of September 11th. Jeff Parness and his team of firefighters, policemen, construction workers, etc want to give thanks for September 12th and on.

The movie does not focus on the tragedies of 9/11, tornadoes, nor wildfires, but instead gives the viewer insight into the heart of those communities that rise above the ashes of adversity and soar like a phoenix, so much so that each year the volunteers grow exponentially in number. The reason for the astronomical growth is that those who receive aid want to experience the joy of bestowing that aid upon another community in need.

The movie could be described in one word, powerful. The event of the premiere was powerful in itself due to the fact that it was premiered at the site of New York Says Thank You’s newest reclamation project, the barn raising for the “Build an Ark Animal Shelter,” headed by Susan Littlejohn, which was demolished by the recent tornadoes that tore through the North Georgia mountain area. Those that were in attendance were visibly moved as evidenced by the thunderous applause when the credits began to role.

I don’t like to use clichés, but they are clichés for a reason, and if I had to pick a phrase to describe “New York Says Thank You” it would be, “the feel good movie of the summer.”
