Mrs. Mary Alice Henson Payne, age 77 of Ellijay, GA passed from this life on Sunday, August 28th, 2011.She was born July 21st, 1934 to her late parents Lloyd Ranz and Estell Parks Henson in Ellijay, GA. Mrs. Payne worked at the Chatsworth Nursing Home, Galaxy Carpets and was co-minister and secretary of Eagle Wings Ministry Food Pantry. She dedicated her life to serving military families. In recognition of her service she was awarded a citation from the Disabled American Veterans in 1997, the Guardian Award from the National Guard Bureau in 1991, and an Award of Appreciation from the United States Army in 1991. She was also a loving wife.

Survivors include husband of 42 years, Rev. Lewis E. Payne of the home in Ellijay; stepson Ronnie Payne of Ellijay; sister and sister-in-laaw Geneva Henson Cole of McCaysville, GA, Ozell Henson of Ellijay, GA; nieces and nephews: Brenda Edens of Gainesville, GA, James Henson of Ellijay, GA, Doug Henson of Ball Ground, GA; special friend Gail Saverley of Ellijay, GA.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 31st, 2011 at the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Grizzle and Col. George Pletcher officiating. Music and song by Lillian Bridges and the Hightower Family. Military committal service will follow in the Logan Funeral Home Pavillion with military rites performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Interment will be in the Turniptown Baptist Church Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Monday, August 29th, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday, August 30th, 2011 until 9:00 p.m.
