Bible Trivia or Not?

How many people entered the Ark?
What is the sixth commandment?
What three disciples were on the Mount of Transfiguration?
Where did Jesus turn water to wine?
What is the root of all evil?

These and many other questions are considered Bible trivia. There are many games, books, and websites dedicated to Bible trivia. Is Bible trivia important? Is that a Bible trivia question?

First, “Trivia” means: Details, considerations, or pieces of information of little importance or value. Therefore, I submit that nothing in the Bible can be called trivia. God put exactly what He wanted into the Bible, no more, no less, and everything has a purpose. So, technically, there is no Bible trivia. It is all of major importance. So, let’s not call it Bible trivia anymore. Let’s call it Bible facts.

I think Bible facts are important because Bible facts contribute detail and meaning to a story or teaching. God thinks detail is important. If he didn’t He would not have put such specific details in the Bible. Think about it. The Children of Israel marched seven times around the city of Jericho. Why seven times? Why not ten? God had a purpose.

When Jesus fed the five-thousand why do you think there were five loaves and two fishes? Why were there twelve basketfuls left over? It is important or it wouldn’t be in the text. We have to find out through study and prayer.

We have to believe that every fact in the Bible is important and has a meaning and purpose. If we don’t we will miss a lot of valuable spiritual insight. There is a big difference between reading Scripture and meditating on it. Meditating includes reading and re-reading. It involves hovering over it and digesting it. It requires patience and waiting for insight from the Lord.

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness (II Timothy 3:16)
