The Gilmer High School Bobcats football team traveled to Murray County to take on the Indians. Gilmer manifested its destiny and scalped the home team Indians 49-0. The Bobcats built a 28-0 half time lead, and had as many first half drives that did not start in Indians’ territory, as Murray had first half first downs, oneThe Indians had the first possession of the game, and managed Murray’s first and only first down of the half; however, the Gilmer defense forced a punt shortly there after. Colt Henderson returned the punt to the Murray County 41 yard line.

On the third play of the drive Tanner Davis raced 29 yards to the end zone, to give Gilmer a 7-0 lead, after a Manny Lopez successful extra point attempt, with 5:38 left in the first quarter.

On the ensuing drive Corey Waters recovered an Indian fumble to give Gilmer the ball on the Murray County 23 yard line. Colt Henderson’s 20 yard carry gave Gilmer a first and goal situation on the Indians’ three yard line. Johnie Flakes scored on the next play, and the Bobcats led 14-0 just 31 game time seconds after Gilmer’s first touch down.

The Bobcats’ defense forced a three and out on the next Indians’ possession. Once again, Henderson returned the punt to the Murray County 41 yard line. On second and two, Joshua Aaron broke through the middle of the Indians defense for a 33 yard scamper that ended in the end zone. With 2:40 left in the first quarter, the Bobcat beat down was officially on, as Gilmer led 21-0.

After another Murray County three and out, the Bobcats took over in Indian territory, on the 43 yard line. The quarter ended with Gilmer on the 25 yard line, after a Flakes 18 yard carry.

The Bobcats drove to the four yard line, and faced a fourth and one. Henderson scored with a four yard touchdown, and the Bobcats led 28-0 with 9:18 left in the first half.

After yet another three and out possession from Murray, the Bobcats finally started an offensive possession in Gilmer territory, on the Bobcats’ 44 yard line. However, Gilmer continued to take up residence in the Indians’ territory like Christopher Columbus and English settlers. Connor Webber’s 31 yard carry on first and 10 gave Gilmer the ball on the Murray 25 yard line. However, the Bobcats’ offense would stall, after failing to convert on fourth and one on the Murray 16 yard line.

The Gilmer defense stood stout and forced another three and out. Henderson returned the punt to the Indians’ 34 yard line. Henderson followed with an16 yard carry that gave Gilmer a first down on the Indians’ 18 yard line. Henderson eventually scored from 10 yards out, giving Gilmer a 35-0 lead that the Bobcats took into the half.

The second half featured the Bobcats’ scoring only two touchdowns, a rushing touchdown by Mark Abercrombie, and a receiving touchdown to Austin Davis, from Garret Rigdon. Gilmer gave the backups and youngsters ample playing time en route to a 49-0 victory.

The Bobcats next take on the Buccaneers of Allatoona, at home, on Friday October 28th. The “Bucs” thoroughly thrashed the Dragons of Pickens High School 42-7 in Allatoona’s last game.
