County FY12 Budget Hearings Begin This Week

Gilmer County’s budget hearings for 2012 are well on their way! Yesterday morning the Board of Commissioners began the first round of budget talks with a discussion of the Road Department’s budget. By comparison, Post 2 Commissioner Danny Hall mentioned that last year’s Road Department budget was cut “pretty deep.” Commission Chair J.C. Sanford confirmed that the Road Department asked for an increase in the budget for FY12. The board debated how to come in under budget without state funding, which the county may or may not receive before the year is out.

The hearings will continue today and tomorrow as the board discusses The Sheriff’s Department, Detention Center and the EMS budgets. FYN will update highlights of the hearings. Watch video of the first seesion of the budget hearings.
