On November 1st DTF Agents and Gilmer County Deputies concluded a two month investigation into a methamphetamine manufacturing ring. Agents had been receiving information on Danny Elrod, a resident of Ellijay. Information received was that Elrod was cooking methamphetamine and employing other individuals to acquire his ephedrine. Agents and deputies went to the residence on the 1st to speak with Elrod about the information.
Several items used to manufacture methamphetamine were laying near the back door along with a marijuana plant in plain view. Elrod was not at home at the time and Agents obtained a search warrant. During the search 13 one pot meth labs were located, along with approximately ¼ gram of methamphetamine. There was also less than one ounce of marijuana located.
Elrod came home prior to agents leaving, and was arrested for Trafficking Methamphetamine, and Manufacturing Marijuana. More arrests could be pending in this case. Investigators tell us they have seen a comeback in meth labs with this being the fourth one the task force has worked this year. All of the labs have been of the one pot type.
The Zell Miller Mountain Parkway Drug Task Force is supported by the Gilmer County Sheriff and the Office of the District Attorney. If you have any drug information please call 1-866-920-6384. All calls are anonymous.
