At the November 2nd 2012 Budget Hearing, the Tax Assessors’ Office submitted its budget request for next year. Tax Assessor Board Chairman Jeff Holloway and Board Member Tom Porter gave the presentation to the Board of Commissioners on behalf of the Tax Assessors’ Office. This year, the Assessors’ Office’s budgeted expenditures are $668,750. For next year, the Office is requesting expenditures of $706,036, an increase of $37,286.
But, the budget negotiations seemed tense in the wake of the Assessors’ recent collapsed plan to contract appraisal services for personal property. At the hearing, Holloway said the Assessors Office is back to square one and is looking to neighboring counties for ideas on how to address the county’s copious appraisal obstacles.
