Edna Henson Cook, age 91, of the Oak Hill Community, Ellijay, GA, passed Monday morning November 14th, 2011.She was born on December 7th, 1919 to her late parents Robert Emory and Frances Emma Parks Henson, in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia. A graduate of Gilmer High School class of 1936, North Georgia College, The University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, and Carver School of Missions at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. She was employed by the Dalton Public School System and taught for over 25 years at City Park, Brookwood and Westwood Elemtary Schools in Dalton, GA.
She is survived by her daughters: Susan E. Cook of New York, NY; Rachel C. (Marvin) Phillips of Gainesville, GA, son and daughter-in-law Joe Cook, Jr. and Rev. Leslie Lippert of Yellow Springs, Ohio. Grandchildren are Will Cook, Cam, Aaron and Jacob Phillips.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 16th, 2011 at the Oak Hill United Methodist Church, with graveside services to follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Cook will lie in state at the church from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. for friends to view. Ministers officiating, Rev. Jennings Neeld, Rev. Peggy Puckett and Rev. Gerry Gleason. Music provided by Cam and Aaron Phillips. Pallbearers are Will Cook, Cam, Aaron and Marvin Phillips, Billy Davis, Paul Mullinax, Truit Brown and Eddie Ellington.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening November 15 at the Logan Funeral Home.
