Bobcats Tamed by Tigers

The Gilmer Bobcats and Lady Bobcats traveled to Dawson County to take on the Tigers and Lady Tigers. Both teams were unsuccessful as the Lady “Cats” were beaten the Lady Tigers 42-31 and the Tigers took down the Bobcats 55-48.The Lady “Cats” were in what began as a defensive struggle as both teams used aggressive full court woman to woman defense to force a plethora of turnovers. Both threw the ball away like cans in the recycling bin; however the home team, Lady Tigers, capitalized the most, as Dawson used a 7-0 run to close the first quarter up 14-7.

The Lady “Cats” were captured in the clutches of the Lady Tigers full court pressing paws. Dawson’s defense forced more turnovers than a bake off, using them to extend the lead in the second quarter to 27-13 at the half. The Lady Tigers outscored the visitors 13-6 in the quarter.

The third quarter was more of the same, as the Gilmer was repeatedly flustered by the Lady Tigers full court press. Gilmer scored only five points in the third, and saw it self down 34-18 at the start of the fourth quarter.

Gilmer’s best quarter was by far it’s best as the Lady Bobcats held the home team to eight points while conversely scoring 13; however, it was too little too late as the Lady Tigers held for a 42-31 win.

The boys’ game did not fare much better for the Bobcats, as Gilmer was once again found flustered by a plethora of possessions that ended with unforced turnovers. The Tigers took full advantage out scoring the visitors 16-6 in the first quarter.

The Bobcats came roaring back in the second quarter, opening up with an 8-3 run that cut the lead to three, 17-14; however an “And 1” three point play put the Tigers up six with 5:11 left in the half.

Neither team was able to score much over the last five minutes of the half. A total of seven points were scored, as Dawson County went into the half up 26-18.

The Tigers’ defense was stifling in the third quarter, as the visiting Bobcats were held to just seven points throughout the quarter. Conversely the Tigers scored seemingly at will as the lead increased to 42-25 to start the fourth quarter.

The Bobcats bared its teeth, with an 11-4 run that cut the lead to 46-36 with just under five minutes left in the game, following a technical foul on Dawson’s head coach. Less than a minute later his was ejected from the game, with 4:06 left.

The Bobcats were unable to take advantage of a furious fourth quarter scoring barrage, and despite outscoring Dawson County 23-13 in the last period, the Bobcats lost 55-48.
