The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team traveled to Ringgold High School, for the Ringgold Duals. The Bobcats swept the competition, including a 1-0 victory over, the Heritage Generals, avenging an earlier 38-21 loss to Heritage at the Smokey Mountain Duals. The Generals shot down a chance to compete against the Bobcats, opting instead to take the 1-0 loss and forfeiting the number one seed at the upcoming region tournament.Gilmer rained on the parade of the Purple Hurricanes of Cartersville 60-15. The “Cats” clawed the Cedartown Bulldogs 69-12. The Mountaineers of North Murray, the number three seed of the tournament, saw the “Cats” climb to a shut out victory 81-0. Tyner County was the final fallen victim, losing 51-3 to Gilmer.
The Bobcats faced a two hour plus wait, only to find out the scheduled opponent, the Heritage Generals, generally wanted no part of facing the Bobcats, leading to the aforementioned forfeit. The general feeling was that the Generals were hesitant to face the Bobcats, in order to keep Gilmer from getting a better feel for Heritage. Heritage’s previous win over the Bobcats accompanied a host of Bobcats’ injuries, including but not limited to Jared Sweat’s bloodied eye.
The Bobcats will compete next during the Region Duals at Heritage High School, Friday January 6th and 7th.
