Gilmer Gets New Appraiser and Chairman

At its January 19th meeting, The Board of Tax Assessors elected a new board chairman. The position was previously held by long-standing member Jeff Holloway. When Holloway asked the board for nominations for chairman, though, Board Member Randy Bell nominated member Tom Porter. The board approved the nomination, elevating Porter to chairman.

Shortly following Porter’s nomination, the new chairman called for an executive session, which Porter requested moved from number 11 on the agenda to number four. The executive session lasted approximately ten minutes. When the Board resumed the meeting, Bell made a motion to rehire former interim Chief Appraiser Richard Lamb. The board approved the motion. Lamb left the appraiser position at the end of October after a three month stint, but will now serve as the county’s Chief Appraiser, if he accepts the position. The board did not indicate how long Lamb would serve or if it will be an interim position again.
