Gilmer Gives Fans Good Showing Against Pickens

The Gilmer Lady Cats and Bobcats provided plenty of exciting action on Tuesday night against Pickens, as the Lady Cats beat the Dragonettes in double overtime and the Bobcats fought hard but ultimately lost to the Dragons.

The opening game of the night featuring the girls’ teams looked for a while to be one that would never end, as the teams were tied at the end of regulation 38-38 and then 43-43 after the first period of overtime. Gilmer found the energy to take the lead late, and a late rebound by Ansley Mulkey sealed the deal for the Lady Cats, who won the game 46-43.

Jenna Parks led the Lady Cats in scoring and rebounding with seventeen points and nine rebounds in the victory. Following close behind was teammate Brittany Lowman, who registered ten points and eight rebounds in the game.

Looking to pull off a sweep against Pickens, the Bobcats hit the court determined to send the Dragons home with their tails between their legs. A slow start by Gilmer put this possibility into question, but a nice second quarter in which the Bobcats outscored the Dragons 19-11 left the Bobcats down just two points at halftime.

The third quarter proved to be the turning point in this game, as Gilmer was outscored by ten points and looked a bit outmatched. The Bobcats responded with eleven points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to top Pickens, as they lost the game by the final score of 60-45.

Joe Bob Charles led the Bobcats in scoring with fourteen points. Ryan Lowery led the team in rebounds, recording five in the game.

Gilmer hits the court again on Friday night when the Lady Cats and Bobcats face the Cedartown Bulldogs at home. The girls’ game starts at 7 with the boys’ game following at 8:30.
