Fourteen Gilmer County fifth graders vied for the championship title at the annual spelling bee that was held on February 9 at the Ellijay Elementary Auditorium. After twelve rounds, Andrew Miller spelled “pituitary” correctly after it was misspelled by Brooklyn Bowen. Miller then spelled the championship word “afghan” correctly, and the judges declared him the winner. Miller will now go on to the district competition that will be held on February 25. Bowen was named Runner Up, and in the event that Miller is not able to attend the district competition, she will attend and compete in his place.
