Sub-Committee Decides Recommendation for Central Business District

On Tuesday, February 7th the city appointed sub-committee that is to recommend a central business district for the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) to the city council decided on a geographical boundary for the district they will propose to the council on February 20th. Though the recommendation is a good illustration of what the central business district might be, it is not yet official. The council could choose to make changes to the proposal once the sub-committee makes their recommendation. Below is a map of the geographical boundaries for the central business district.

From the square east, parcels fronting River Street on the north and south sides to the city limits
From River Street, parcels fronting Depot Street on both sides
From Depot Street, parcels fronting Jeff Drive on the east to the south side of Kiker Street.
From the square north, parcels fronting North Main Street on the east and west sides to the Ellijay River; then on the east side to McCutchen Street
From North Main Street, parcels fronting McCutchen Street on the west side to Bob Pinson Street; then on both sides to North Main Street
From the square south, in-city parcels fronting South Main Street on the east and west sides to Hwy. 282
From South Main Street, parcels fronting West Spring St. on both sides to Gilmer Street
From West Spring Street, parcels fronting both sides of Gilmer Street to Broad Street
From Broad Street, parcels fronting Gilmer Street on the east side to Dalton Street
And all those parcels encompassed within the above boundaries.

The sub-committee will also recommend a list of names of applicants to the council that will make of the seven-member DDA board. Council will then select a DDA board, approve a geographical boundary for the central business district, and then make a resolution to be sent to the state in order to begin the DDA. No further decision was by the sub-committee about who they will recommend to the city council to be on the DDA board.
