The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team traveled to Riverwood International Charter School in Sandy Springs to take part in the AAA West Sectional tournament. The Sectional tournaments decide the participants and seeding of the participants for the State Traditional Tournaments. The Bobcats will take nine wrestlers to the state tournament.Cameron Perry, Daniel Bautista, Justin Karr, and Joey Ray all finished first in their respective weight classes, making them number one seeds in the upcoming state tournament.
Brady McCollum placed fourth at 126. Johnie Flakes placed third at 138. Sam Rogers placed fifth at 145. Ben Deloach placed sixth, after nursing a shoulder injury throughout the tournament and forfeiting several matches. Jared Sweat placed seventh at 170.
The State Traditional Tournaments began Thursday February 16th in Gwinnett. The Bobcats are looking to complete a sweep of both the State Dual and Traditional Championships for the third year in a row.
