March Of Dimes Kick-Off

For the first time in the last 30 years the rate of premature babies has dropped. With the mission of helping moms have full-term pregnancies and research the problems that threaten the health of babies the March Of Dimes played a role.

On Feb 10 volunteers from Fannin, Gilmer and Pickens counties gathered to kick off the season.

This year’s ambassador family is the Queen Family of Fannin County. Matt Queen shared his family’s experience when their first child. Isabella was born 12 weeks prematurely at weighing just over 2 pounds. After being life flighted to Emory Isabella spent a couple of months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Isabella was able to go home on April 7th weighing 4.5 lbs.

Other than never been able to pass a hearing test Isabella is a healthy child. She recently celebrated her third birthday.

The March Of Dimes is able to help families such as the Queen Family by fund raising. Recruitment is going on now for the walk taking on place Saturday 21,2012.
