America Is Great Because She Is Good

Religion

Who ever said this, and it wasn’t Alexis DeToqueville as alleged, was correct:
America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great. America is no longer good and its former greatness is fading fast.
Many things that are biblically wrong and evil are today labeled “good.” And, things that are good are labeled “bad.”

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;
Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter
! (Isaiah 5:20)

America appears to be under some kind of spell. So much of what we do today is in direct opposition to the most basic common sense, not to mention God’s Word. Many of us wonder if there really is something in the water.

Who would have thought that as recently as fifty years ago we still considered ourselves a Christian nation? Recently, our President declared to the world that we are not a Christian nation. For once, I agree with him. We are not. What has happened to us? Today we live in a post Christian, pagan, secular America? How did we get here?

We have traveled a very predictable path over the years. Proverbs 8:36 says:

But he who sins against me injures himself;
All those who hate me love death
.

As a nation, we have rejected God. We continue to do so at an ever-increasing rate. We get crazier and crazier as we move away from the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

The concept of right and wrong has long been lost. The government lies to us continually (Think Obamacare) and we accept it. Companies lie to us and we still buy their products. Things that have historically been accepted as evil are now lifted up as virtuous. A woman’s right to kill her baby is protected by the Constitution (Not really but the judges say it does). Homosexuality is not only condoned, it is promoted and if you disagree, as God’s Word does, then you are labeled “mean spirited” and a “homophobe.”

The concept of sin has also been lost and replaced with less offensive terminology. We never sin. We make mistakes, execute misjudgments, or lack wisdom.

God is not completely dead according to today’s culture, but He does have to stay locked up in the churches. Don’t allow him out the door. No praying. No God-talk at work. Don’t read the Bible in public especially in school and for goodness sakes, don’t pray at a football game.

This week I am living in my dark side. I don’t see any real hope for America surviving much longer unless, of course, God directly intervenes. I pray He does, but I really doubt He will only because we so rightly deserve to be judged. We actually need to be judged. The Scriptures tell us that he who has been given much has much required of him. What nation in the world’s history has had more grace and blessings than America? None. Was Sodom and Gomorrah that much worse than we are?

I encourage you to pray for God’s intervention. I encourage you to pray, pray, and pray for our nation and our leaders. Get involved, vote, exercise your rights as a citizen, talk to your representatives both locally, and nationally. At this point, that is all any one person can do. I encourage you not to put your head in the sand and think it can’t happen here or that everything will be fine. It is not fine. It will not be fine, unless and until God intervenes and graciously sends us repentance. The story of Nineveh does give me some hope that a miracle could occur. There could be another Great Awakening. God knows we need one.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land (II Chronicles 7:14).
