Gilmer Bobcats Turn the Tassel!

Gilmer High School had its graduation for the graduating Class of 2012 on Saturday, May 19th. A total of 225 students made up the graduating Class of 2012, as 217 of the purple and white clad students received their diplomas on Saturday in a jam-packed Gilmer High School gymnasium.

The ceremony began with the Processional of the Senior Class of 2012, the Pledge of Allegiance by Senior Class Vice President Shelby Gray, and a welcome by Senior Class President Rebecca Hood.

“Be proud of this day, but challenge yourself,”

Hood said in her welcome speech.

“Know that we did have fun and enjoy our time as bobcats, but we will always be bobcats and we will be successful…you are forever a bobcat, and you will take these experiences with you always…Bobcats are powerful. Bobcats are courageous. Bobcats are fearless and fierce.”

After the welcome, Hood led the graduates in the Gilmer High School Alma Matter and Senior Class Secretary Linsey Guffey gave the Inspiration.

Next, Hood, also a member of the Gilmer High School Chorus performed the Senior Class song, “I’m Not Gonna Cry”.

Senior Class Vice President Shelby Gray gave the Class History, followed by the Salutatorian Address by Salutatorian Thomas Phillip Spivey and the presentation of a Class gift, by Class Treasurer Jessica Hagin. This years’ class gift was an outside patio that the Seniors’ dedicated to the future classes.

Before the Conferring and Presentation of the Diplomas by Superintendent Bryan Dorsey, Valedictorian Savannah Lynne Summers gave the Valedictorian’s address and Principal Adam Hathaway gave the Principal’s Remarks.

At the end of the ceremony, the crowd was presented as the Class of 2012 by Senior Sponsor, Mrs. Nicole Lord and Principal Hathaway instructed the turning of the tassel.

Of the 225 students who graduated, 52 were Honor graduates, and 139 were Scholarship Recipients. Congratulations to the Gilmer High School Class of 2012.
