Ellijay City Council has approved a L.O.S.T Distribution Certificate with a 16 percent distribution for the City of Ellijay.Back in March Ellijay, East Ellijay, and Gilmer County reached a verbal agreement on the Local Options Sales Tax with 16 percent being given to Ellijay, 9 percent to East Ellijay, and Gilmer County receiving 75 percent.
The verbal agreement was a breath of fresh air for each of the municipalities because the negotiation process had been going on since August.
In tonight’s meeting, the Ellijay City Council officially approved for Ellijay Mayor Al Hoyle to sign the distribution certificate, although the City legally had until December 1st to make a final decision on the Tax.
Ellijay Mayor Al Hoyle said of the approval,
“In today’s economic conditions, we are happy with what we got.”
Hoyle also told FYN that Gilmer County Board of Commissioner Chairman J.C. Sanford has already signed the distribution certificate, and once he and both East Ellijay Mayor Mack West sign the document, the distribution agreement will be official.
