The Gilmer County Board of Education held a Comprehensive L.E.A. Improvement Plan (CLIP) Meeting on Tuesday, July 17th. The meeting allowed citizens to hear a brief explanation of the plan with the opportunity to ask questions. Greg Wingo, who delivered the presentation, said the plan mainly focuses on at-risk students and is not a complete plan of the district’s instructional and assessment improvements.
“It’s how we’re going to use title dollars (federal funding) to improve instruction and assessment,”
Wingo said.
Speaking to a nearly empty room Tuesday evening, Wingo explained that first the plan is submitted to the DOE (Department of Education). The DOE will then submit the plan to the area specialist, which will approve the plan. After the plan is approved, the DOE will allocate funds to the county, at which point Gilmer will write a budget for the usage of these funds.
The submission deadline for the plan is July 31st. However, Wingo said he will try to have the plan submitted by the 27th.
