Out of the five candidates who ran for Tax Commissioner in Gilmer County in the July 2012 election, the two candidates that will meet in a runoff on August 21st are Rebecca Marshall and Chela Starnes Bailey.
With five tax commissioner candidates in the race on Tuesday, July 31st, there was a good calculation that a runoff could take place after the election. The two candidates that emerged from the July Election and will appear in an August runoff were Marshall and Starnes Bailey, defeating Charlie Paris, Merle Howell Naylor, and Ermelleana Lambert.
After these candidates were defeated, FYN attempted to contact each of them to see if they will now be endorsing either Marshall or Starnes Bailey.
Naylor, in a phone conversation with FYN, said she didn’t think she would endorse either candidate and Lambert told FYN that she didn’t think it was appropriate to make an endorsement due to her current position in the tax payer’s office.
FYN also attempted to contact Mr. Paris for a reaction to the election results; we are awaiting his response.
A debate has been scheduled by the Gilmer Republican Party at Harrison Hall between Marshall and Starnes Bailey for Tuesday, August 7th at 7:00 p.m.
