An opinion by Charlie Paris:
Compromise is not always a good thing. President Obama has recently complained that most republicans seem unwilling to compromise on gun control. He offers several explanations, ranging from the desire for re-election to pressure from news outlets (Fox) and ultra conservative groups. In his typically arrogant way, he assumes that any resistance to his desires must be the result of erroneous thinking or misplaced values. In yet another attempt to divide and conquer, he has stated that “the realities of guns in urban areas are very different from the realities of guns in rural areas”. This is true – according to him – because the only legitimate reason to own a gun is for hunting. He equates the entire 2nd amendment to a right to hunt. Protecting One’s home and family are not even a consideration. We have the government for that. He’s not really this stupid, of course. He just believes that we are; and so far, the majority of us in this country have been.

So today’s complaint is that most republicans are unwilling to compromise on gun control. I say, Thank God for them! Just as compromise is not always a good thing, gridlock is not always a bad thing. It just depends on the topic at hand.
